Making a Difference in Western New York
UB is proud to be a part of the Day of Caring, Western New York’s largest community service event, mobilizing thousands of volunteers to complete hands-on, community service projects in Erie and Niagara counties.
From our participation in annual fund-raising events, to community service projects that make our neighborhoods safer places in which to live, UB and its employees are committed to making a difference in Western New York and beyond. Our generosity reaches others, improving the lives of our neighbors.
Thinking Globally, Volunteering Locally
Organized by the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, the Day of Caring serves as an informal launch of UB’s Campaign for the Community, conducted each year in the fall semester.
On Aug. 19, 2009, 170 UB volunteers worked with three community organizations that are part of the UB CORE (Community OutReach for Employees) volunteerism program. They are Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER, Buffalo ReUse and Habitat for Humanity of Buffalo, Inc.
UB employees assigned to Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER worked Seneca Bluffs Park, doing Preparations for fall planting including weeding, mulching, invasive plant removal, trail maintenance, painting picnic tables
Those working with Buffalo ReUse were involved in activities including painting, sorting and tagging items available for purchase, and gardening.
With Habitat for Humanity, UB volunteers were involved in duties including painting and construction work.
