Alex Morrison-Nozik (right), shown with mentor Ji Li, will
present research about the heart-protective role of a novel protein
at this spring’s Experimental Biology meeting.
Alex
Morrison-Nozik has been selected as a finalist for Graduate
Student Best Abstract Award in the American Society for Pharmacology and
Experimental Therapeutics’ (ASPET)
Cardiovascular Pharmacology Showcase.
Morrison-Nozik, a PhD candidate in pharmacology
and toxicology, will present his research during the Experimental
Biology 2013 meeting in Boston this spring.
Morrison-Nozik is investigating the role of a novel modulator,
Sestrin2, in activating AMPK, a protein that shows promise as a
protective agent during heart attacks. The research may point
toward new therapies for ischemic heart disease.
Ji
Li, PhD, assistant professor of pharmacology and toxicology, is
Morrison-Nozik’s award sponsor.
