Artistic Expression and Performing Arts (AEPA)

UB has a long tradition of cutting-edge work in music, creative writing and the performing visual arts. The Strategic Strength in Artistic Expression and the Performing Arts is building on that tradition.

Anchored by the ongoing work of the Center for 21st Century Music, this strength is made up of faculty, affiliated centers and performance groups directly involved in the creation or performance of original works.

Performance groups like the Slee Sinfonietta and programs like June in Buffalo are helping to continue Buffalo’s storied tradition of creative innovation. Our programs and performers have been featured all over the world, and have received numerous honors for their continued excellence.

Starting from the idea that building on our region’s artistic heritage is crucial part of revitalizing Buffalo, those participating in this strength are actively contributing to Western New York through their creative production.
