As Director of the Office of Research Advancement, Carol O’Connell leads major grant proposal efforts in support of UB’s strategic initiatives. Previously, Carol served as Director of Grants Development and External Relations for UB’s Power Center for Utility Explorations and as Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Canisius College where she advanced partnerships with industry and developed competitive proposals for funding. Carol has a Master's of Public Administration from Canisius College.

Kate Kowalski joined the UB2020 team as a grant writer for UB’s Strategic Strengths, working closely with Principal Investigators and technical teams to develop complex, multi-investigator proposals. Kate also coordinates workshops and events to cultivate strategic alliances and promote UB’s research capabilities and accomplishments. Prior to UB, Kate worked in the private sector as a business proposal writer for an international consulting firm and regional commercial bank. She earned a Master’s in Communication and Organizational Leadership from Canisius College.

Kimberly Burns brings 13 years of research accounts and proposal
preparation experience to her role as Grant Facilitator for the
Office of Research Advancement. Kimberly most recently served as
Grant Coordinator for UB’s Office of Sponsored Projects
Services, where she provided analytical, financial and
administrative support to Principal Investigators and key project
staff during the grant development and award process.
Kimberly’s research accounts expertise and perspective are
key to the development of UB’s strategic research
proposals. Kimberly earned her Bachelor's degree from SUNY
Empire State College.
Kristina M. Wasson-Blader, PhD ELS

Kristina Wasson-Blader has 13 years of experience writing and editing peer-review manuscripts and grant proposals to both private foundations and federal funding agencies. Before joining UB, Tina worked as the scientific editor in the Office of Research Administration at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She earned her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in biology from Bloomsburg University and her doctorate in biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a board-certified editor in life sciences.
