Artistic Expression and Performing Arts

The ‘Artistic Expression and Performing Arts’ (UBarts) area of strategic strength can lead a cultural renaissance at the University extending outward through the Western New York region, enhancing the international reputation of the University and contributing greatly to the quality of life in the region. UBarts can nurture a cultural renaissance in Buffalo by offering increasing productivity, leadership, and collaboration in the regional arts community, and increasing exposure to our artistic resources. The identification of and support for UBarts as a catalytic agent for regional rebirth will not only enhance UB’s presence locally, but also promote UB as a national model of cultural citizenship. We envision three primary areas of engagement:

  • Support artistic expression by creating new works, fostering faculty productivity, and encouraging trans-disciplinary work – UBarts Work
  • Nurture cultural citizenship through the presentation and dissemination of new work, and the development of regional and international collaborations – UBarts Place
  • Plan for cohesion and continuity by collection, presentation and dissemination of work and by developing disciplinary strength and increasing visibility – UBarts Identity.
