Student Services Transformation
Portal Updates
August 2009
Dear Core Team Members and Subject Matter Experts:
I would like to take this opportunity to update everyone on the progress of the Portal Module of the Student Services Transformation Project.
Our work on prototyping will continue through October 2009, as we use Enterprise Portal tools, features and security settings/mappings, while attempting to replicate or improve existing MyUB capabilities using only delivered options.
Having gained valuable experience and knowledge transfer from our CIBER consultant/implementation partner, UB will be positioned at the conclusion of our prototyping effort to reassess the gaps discovered last fall, and to determine a plan for building a production-ready Enterprise Portal. The latter is the next version of MyUB (to be rolled out in August 2010 for fall 2011 applicants).
Our goals/guiding principles during prototyping include:
- Maximize delivered functionality as much as possible to emulate existing critical functionality. (Customization efforts will be strictly limited/restricted as guided by the overall project.)
- Identify roles that will be delivered for full implementation (for students, faculty, staff, accepted students and applicants). We already know that these will be limited and not as fine-grained as the current MyUB.
- Gain knowledge and experience to outline a course for full implementation.
- Apply the majority of work during prototyping to give our production-oriented implementation a head start.
- Consult with other project team modules and subject-matter experts (current primary MyUB stakeholders) to provide critical information, and to invite them to attend functional team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Summarize findings and highlight issues in support of a project plan for implementation.
We have accomplished the following major tasks:
- Populated student content for portal.
- Completed initial model user testing to view typical portal experience.
- Completed exploration of additional technology tools.
- Completed preparations to roll out administrative access to other project team members.
Because of your expertise, we rely on your feedback and attention for this transition to succeed. I look forward to working with you as we continue the PeopleSoft implementation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
