Edward M. Bednarczyk, BS ‘84, PharmD, FAPhA, FCCP, was elected to the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Board of Trustees as president of the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science for the 2018-2019 term.

The APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science stimulates the discovery, dissemination and application of research to improve patient health and serves pharmacists and those members who are involved in the pharmaceutical sciences.

Bednarczyk received his BS in pharmacy from UB in 1984, and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the Buffalo General Hospital in 1985. He went on to receive his PharmD degree from the Medical University of South Carolina followed by a fellowship in Clinical Cardiovascular Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals of Cleveland. He came to the University at Buffalo in 1993 through the Clinical Pharmacokinetics Lab and the Department of Nuclear Medicine within the School of Medicine. He switched his primary appointment to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1998. 

Bednarczyk served as chair of the department of pharmacy practice from 2007-2017 and is currently the Director of the Center for Health Outcomes, Pharmacoinformatics and Epidemiology. His research is largely focused on the use of molecular imaging to explore drug effects, with his clinical responsibilities divided between nuclear medicine and neurology.

Founded in 1852, APhA is the largest association of pharmacists in the United States, with more than 62,000 practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians as members. As the voice of pharmacy, APhA leads the profession and equips members for their role as medication experts in team-based, patient-centered care.
