An article in Business First reports the number of UB students studying to become engineers has exploded in the last 10 years, rising from 4,057 in 2009 to 7,388 in fall 2018, an increase of 58 percent, and interviews Liesl Folks, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

“There has been a remarkable growth in engineering enrollment across the nation,” she said. “That has been driven by what we saw in 2008 and 2009, where people with engineering backgrounds quickly bounced back to full employment. People notice that type of thing.”

The article notes that Folks recently was named senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Arizona, and that an interim dean will be announced soon before the university launches a search for the next dean.
