Research Group

The Research Working Group will focus the community’s research performed by faculty and staff at the University.  The SMART CoE will align along three thrusts: Sustainable Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Processes, and Transformative Design.

  • Scholarship in Sustainable Manufacturing will explore innovative use of eco- and bio-materials, product lifecycle analysis, net zero waste manufacturing processes, and green building construction methods.
  • Investigations in Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Processes will focus on bio-materials, multi-functional additive manufacturing, innovative three-dimensional printing technologies, sensor-enabled products, and advanced robotics.
  • Community research in Transformative Design will be focused on bringing products to market faster across many scales through the design of multi-functional and smart materials, automation, and cyber-empathic design.
