Envisioning solutions to our global problems is critical to UB's
Thank you for attending the Sustainability Academy Keynote
Address with Annie Leonard!
Annie Leonard spent time with UB students and community members
as part of a memorable visit to the University at Buffalo. Check
out this video to recap her time with us!
For nearly thirty years UB has been practicing its three
“R’s” of Reducing, Reusing and of course
Recycling with good success. While we have been a
leader in the SUNY system we have also witnessed new innovations
beyond our campus in both infrastructure and culture chaining
activities. The three R’s have been enhanced to a more
sustainable “Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair,
The focus on sustainability within the Realizing UB 2020
strategy provides an excellent opportunity for the university to
dive a bit deeper into “the Story of our Stuff” and ask
tougher questions about how we can move towards zero waste here at
UB and throughout the larger community.
Annie Leonard, founder of the Story of Stuff Project.
Annie Leonard has helped millions of people around the world
understand and talk about the Story of
Stuff. In December 2007, Ms. Leonard and her friends at
Free Range Studios created a 20-minute movie about the way we make,
use, and throw away stuff on the internet, unleashing a torrent of
pent-up demand for honest conversation about the impacts of our
consumer-crazed culture on people and the planet. In the five years
since The Story of Stuff was released,
Annie’s ‘cartoon about trash’ has been viewed
more than 30 million times worldwide.
