Kelley Mosher

Kelley is an Environmental Design Major at UB.

What does sustainability mean to you?

Sustainability is a way of life; it is how each and every one of us in this world can contribute to the betterment of society while still living the life we choose. In my life, I think of sustainability as a motivating factor. I base my actions around their sustainability. It is a means of asking if the environmental, economic, social, and mental effects of my actions are viable through time.

What are you doing to help UB become more sustainable?

To help UB become more sustainable, I try to be an example to other students in my actions and I participate in as many events as possible. I am currently pledging to Alpha Kappa Chi- the co-educational, professional environmental fraternity on campus- and hoping that with this group I can be a proponent for sustainable efforts and change around UB and the surrounding communities.

How do you involve UB’s faculty or staff in your sustainability work?

I would love to involved UB’s faculty and staff more in my sustainability work, but most often I go to faculty/staff with questions I have about sustainability or the environment. Professors are always willing to take that extra time to talk with me to expand my knowledge, and I am very grateful for that. I have learned more about how integration of sustainable efforts is the key to true sustainability.

How has sustainability impacted your academic pursuits?

It has certainly helped to decide what fields I am interested in and where I see myself moving toward. Having been at UB and deepened my understanding of sustainability I know I want to work with other people who are passionate about sustainable living practices. I see myself working in the Buffalo-Niagara Region with community revitalization and redevelopment.

What is the one thing you would like people to know that you do in your personal life to further sustainability?

One thing I do in my personal life, that I would like to share with others, that furthers sustainability is I remind myself every day that my choices matter and by deliberately making better, more sustainable choices I can be a part of the positive change toward a better environment.

How could UB improve its sustainability efforts?

I think UB could improve its sustainability efforts by making sustainability an essential part of campus life, and reiterating issues of sustainability as everyday issues. Sustainability shouldn’t be a compromise on campus, but the primary choice. UB should be pushing sustainable practices to its students, faculty and staff, exemplifying those practices, and continue working within the campus community to constantly improve their sustainability efforts.
