Esther Buckwalter, an Environmental Engineering major and a
leader within UB’s Engineers for a Sustainable World, is
committed to finding solutions to meet humanity’s basic needs
without sacrificing our natural environment. Esther is a Udall
Scholar and helped plan the 2011 conference of Engineers for a
Sustainable world that was held in Buffalo. Esther has studied in
Mexico, interned in Indonesia and now has Costa Rica in her sights;
wherever she goes her dedication for the environment follows.
Esther discovered firsthand the challenges faced within a society
where access to clean water is limited by corporate ownership of
this natural resource and poor insufficient government controls.
These personal experiences have focused Esther’s professional
goals and fuel her work toward achieving
sustainability.
