As a public research institution, our model of sustainability
focuses on numerous goals and objectives, all centered around the
idea that research shapes the solutions to sustainability
Our model includes:
UB provides multiple learning opportunities that highlight local and global challenges to sustainability.
In the classroom and through opportunities such as the Honors College and the Undergraduate Academies, students can enroll in sustainability related courses.
Whether it is a course in glacial geology or Philosophy and the
opportunities in sustainability are found in just about every
school and program at UB.
UB is a leader in the sustainability field thanks to the world-class research conducted by its faculty.
Our researchers are attacking global sustainability problems through applied technology, policy, thought and practice.
Whether it is developing the latest thin film solar technology, or discovering new treatments for contaminated sediments, our sustainability solutions reach far beyond UB.
Our vision for sustainability extends beyond our campus borders. We bring our sustainability solutions and thinking to partners in our own region and those in need.
Our students and researchers turn their microscopes and pens toward the community, working in places like Hickory Woods and the West Side of Buffalo to assist communities struggling with legacies of toxic pollution, or those that are looking to create a more sustainable tomorrow.
We also work with partners in the community like Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo and the Massachusetts Avenue Project to supply them with nutrient rich soil amendment from our on-campus composting program.
UB Green organizes student service trips during winter/spring breaks to places such as Louisiana and the Dominican Republic to strengthen communities and the natural environment.
We make our best practices available to our colleagues in higher education to continue what works well in sustainability.
After all, we are all working toward the goal of a sustainable
