Leadership House

Imagine living with your new best friends, walking to class together every day, and getting exclusive access to leadership opportunities. That’s what you’ll find in Leadership House, which is open to a limited number of highly motivated first-year students.

Live with Other Leaders

Living with students who share your interests makes it easy to keep learning even when you’re not in class, and lets you form lasting friendships from your very first day on campus.

In Leadership House, you’ll live with students who love leadership and community service as much as you do. Here, you’ll make friends faster, attend leadership retreats and jumpstart your leadership experience.

Students who are accepted into Leadership House live together in a residence hall on campus. You’ll gain valuable skills and experiences to add to your resume or Co-Curricular Transcript, and you’ll be paired with an upperclass mentor who lived in Leadership House, so they can help guide you throughout the year.

“Leadership House made the UB campus seem much smaller since I had instantly made 29 other friends.”

– Former Leadership House resident

Learn Together

At Leadership House, you’ll be encouraged to spend time learning about yourself, others and your community as you enhance your leadership abilities and potential. Students in Leadership House enroll in the same leadership courses, and participate in a variety of other learning activities designed exclusively for them.

Leadership House is a year-long commitment, with one required class each semester. During the fall semester, you’ll enroll in a foundational leadership course called Dynamics of Leadership (UBE 102). Here, you’ll learn about different leadership models and theories and how they relate to your own leadership journey, so you can form your own personal philosophy of leadership. The second semester, you’ll be enrolled in a Leadership Internship Course (UBE 496), which is focused on applying your leadership. You’ll learn about leadership opportunities on campus, connect with the community through networking opportunities, and focus on a community service project.

Be an Active, Engaged Citizen

Service is an essential part of the Leadership House experience, which is why you’ll have the opportunity to participate in service events across campus and throughout the Buffalo-Niagara community. Leadership House students also engage in a year-long service-learning experience, in partnership with a local not-for-profit agency. Together, these community engagement experiences let you build new leadership skills, give back to the community, and make a positive impact during your first year at UB.
