Robert S. Stephens, PhD, is professor and chair of the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. He is a clinical psychologist whose research focuses on the treatment of substance use disorders using cognitive-behavioral and motivational enhancement therapies. He has been an investigator on 10 NIDA-funded randomized controlled trials investigating treatments for cannabis use disorders in both adults and adolescents, and is co-editor of the book Cannabis Dependence: Its Nature, Consequences, and Treatment. His work has been published in numerous academic journals, including Addictive Behaviors, Journal of Substance Abuse, Journal of the American Medical Association and Addiction, for which he serves as assistant editor.
