OBJECTIVES

The Manufacturing Grants are designed to encourage collaboration between NYS non-profit organizations and NYS manufacturers or early stage companies with a project that will benefit the manufacturing industry.  Award sizes range up to $50,000.  Applicant teams involving companies with 50 or more employees combined are required to contribute a match according to the sliding scale below, with at least 50% of the match in the form of cash equity. If an application includes multiple companies, the match requirement is based on the total employees of combined companies

The Manufacturing Innovation Grants are intended to offset the costs of assisting companies with the following types of projects:

  • Adoption on new technology to enhance a process and/product
  • Prototype development
  • Design for manufacturing
  • Proof-of-concept manufacturing
  • Manufacturing scale-up
  • Manufacturing-related equipment purchases
  • Other projects to advance manufacturing or manufacturing capabilities

Project must be clearly defined and ready to be undertaken. Projects must be completed within two years of an award, and smaller projects may require earlier completion.

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS

UB may submit three (3) applications per deadline as long as they originate from different departments or centers.

FUNDING INFORMATION

Applicants may apply for up to $50,000.

INTERNAL REVIEW PROCESS

If you or your colleagues are interested in applying, please submit the internal competition documents as a single PDF to Dr. Kenneth Tramposch at ovpr.limitedsubmission@research.buffalo.edu by Jan. 23, 2018

The document package should include:

  • A brief description of the project (2 page limit) addressing:
  • How is this project transformational, unique, or likely to lead to new or improved manufactured products or manufacturing technologies?
  • The expected impact of the project on the company/companies involved.
  • The organizations, companies and personnel involved.
  • In addition, indicate the budget and timeline for the project.
  • A letter from the department chair or center director certifying that the application is the sole submission from the unit.
  • Biosketches of the key investigators

If selected, the full proposal deadline is Feb. 28, 2018.

Jeff Lawrence Manufacturing Innovation Fund is a recurring Limited Submission Opportunity. There are several filing deadlines during the year. The next is March 30, 2018.
