Growing a vital life sciences complex, the UB Office of Economic Development partners with industry and entrepreneurs on the downtown Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The Office of Economic Development (OED) is helping transform the economies of Buffalo Niagara, New York State and beyond by helping UB achieve its full impact as a major economic engine.

The OED bridges research and economic development. It maximizes campus-wide research efforts, leveraging the knowledge, resources and expertise necessary for an innovation economy, and creates an environment that encourages and rewards invention, collaboration and community.

  • Funding and incentive programs including:
    • UB CAT grants: These grants provide cost sharing for product development and process improvement projects.
    • START-UP NY: This is a tax-incentive program that aligns university space and expertise with business and job growth.
    • WNY Renaissance Program: This program allows established manufacturers to broaden their business base, become more globally competitive and strengthen the local economy.
    • Bruce Holm Memorial Catalyst Fund: This grant supports commercializing discoveries and inventions of UB faculty.

Locating R&D Facilities that Expand Your Capacity

Industry can leverage R&D operations by using university equipment and facilities. Businesses can rent the space or contract with experts to perform tests and experiments. Key facilities including:
