Hagner will perform a solo recital, accompanied by Tatiana Goncharova on piano, at 8 p.m. Oct. 24. The performance will be the first concert of the season in the annual Slee/Visiting Artist Series. The program will include Fritz Kreisler's Variations on a theme by Corelli; Mozart's Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 454; Eugéne Ysaÿe's Sonata for Solo Violin, Op. 27, No. 4; Shostakovich's Preludes, Op. 34, and Robert Schumann's Sonata No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105.

Tickets are priced at $12, with discounts available for senior citizens ($9), UB faculty/staff/alumni ($9) and students ($5).

On Oct. 26, members of the Slee Sinfonietta and the UB Symphony, conducted by Magnus Märtensson, will accompany Hagner in a performance of Antonio Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" at 8 p.m. in Slee. Anatol Liadov's Eight Russian Folk Songs will precede the Vivaldi piece as the only other piece on the program.

Tickets are $5.

Hagner won First Prize in the 2000 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, where she also was awarded a special Bärenreiter Prize for Strings. She also is the recipient of the Beracasa Foundation Prize of the Montpellier Radio-France Festival and the John French Violin Chair of YCA.

Born in Munich, Hagner made her debut at the age of 12 with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra. At 13, she was selected to be the German soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta, at the legendary 1990 concert in Tel Aviv. Since these early appearances, Hagner has performed as soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Claudio Abbado; the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Roger Norrington, and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Philippe Entremont, and many others.

In addition, she continues to perform in New York as a member of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Society Two.

The music department will open the schedule for October with a free concert by Korean komungo artist Jin Hi Kim, titled "Komungo Muse and Permutation" at 8 p.m. today in Baird Recital Hall, 250 Baird Hall, North Campus. The program, presented as part of a three-day residency by Kim, is co-sponsored by the Korean Language and Culture Program, the Birge-Cary Chair in Music, the Asian Studies Program and the Dae-Han Foundation.

Kim's entire program will consist of her own compositions, which represent an evolution of the komungo, a musical instrument indigenous to Korea, into the 21st century.

The concert schedule for October also includes recitals by music department faculty members John Fullam and Cheryl Gobbetti Hoffman. They will perform on Monday and on Oct. 30, respectively, at 8 p.m. in Slee.

Ticket prices for both concerts are $5.

Fullam will perform on Monday as a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet—now in its 40th season—which features Fullam on clarinet, Christine Bailey on flute, Florence Myers on oboe, Jay Matthews on horn and Ronald Daniels on bassoon. Fullam, principal clarinetist of the Philharmonic, holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School.

Flutist Gobbetti Hoffman's recital on Oct. 30 will feature a Halloween theme, complete with props, lighting and a "haunting" musical program. Joining her will be Eryk Anspach, flute; David Kim-Boyle, sound technician; Susan Fancher, saxophone; John Hunt, bassoon; Anthony Miranda and members of the UB Percussion Ensemble, percussion; Stephen Manes, piano, and Jamie Polychronis, light projectionist.

In addition to her teaching duties, Gobbetti Hoffman performs in the Slee Sinfonietta, and serves as associate director for the June in Buffalo Festival.

She previously was a tenured musician and board director for the Buffalo Philharmonic.

Tickets to concerts presented by the Department of Music may be obtained at the Slee Hall box office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, from the Center for the Arts box office from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and at all TicketMaster outlets.

The full slate of Slee Hall concerts is available online at www.slee.buffalo.edu.
