Adminstrative Update

University Facilities has announced new, ongoing and completed construction projects on the North and South campuses. These are projects that are of major interest, represent a major expenditure of university resources or will have a major impact on the university community in terms of physical disruption.

 
 
   

Completed Projects:

  • Moot Court/O'Brian Hall Rehab Project, featuring a new Moot Court Room, four classrooms, a judge's chamber and a jury deliberation room
  • Roof repairs for Baldy, Furnas and Statler
  • Flint Village—Student Housing Phase IV Project consisting of nine double-apartment buildings and a commons building with 536 beds in one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments.
  • Rehab of Farber 144 lecture hall
  • Painting of public areas on the first floors of Cary, Farber and Sherman
  • Phase III of Ellicott masonry repairs
  • Cary/Farber/Sherman master plan
  • Repairs to Richmond, Spaulding, Center for Tomorrow and Cooke-Hochstetter parking lots
  • Major rehab project for Department of Biochemistry on the first floor of Farber
  • Classroom upgrades. Seating, chalkboards, lecterns and desks were replaced. Video cabinets were added to 12 classrooms. Seven classrooms were equipped with instructional technology. Existing IT equipment was upgraded with five new CRT projectors and seven new visualizers. Wireless mice were placed in 25 rooms and wireless microphones in five rooms. Seven classrooms were rehabbed to improve aesthetics. All classrooms now are on a two-year cycle for painting.
  • Renovations to many first-floor restrooms
  • Painting of second-floor hallways in Cary, Farber and Sherman
 
   

On-going Projects:

  • Exterior Signage Project is under way. The project is scheduled for completion this fall with approximately 1,000 old signs removed and new signs installed on the North and South campuses.
  • Landscape Master Plan concept report is completed. Consultant is to identify design guidelines for future projects.
  • Harriman rehab project is nearly complete. The project entails renovating the ground and first floors, adding an elevator, replacing all windows and abating asbestos as required.
  • Replacement of air-handling units in Cooke and Hochstetter is in construction.
  • Expansion of the Center for Computational Research has begun in Norton Hall. A future expansion is in design.
  • Rehab of the Farber 220/221 suite for the Office of Medical Computing is under construction.
  • Two exit stairways in the northwest and southeast wings of Farber Hall are under construction.
  • Rehab project for School of Nursing is under way on the seventh, eighth and ninth floors of Kimball Tower.
  • The rehab of Crosby 301 lecture hall is near completion.
  • Enhancements to entrances to many buildings at the university will be completed by October.
 
   

New Projects:

  • Addition to Jacobs Hall for the School of Management is being planned.
  • An addition to Ketter Hall is in design. This project will expand earthquake engineering research laboratory space in the facility.
  • Site preparation work is being done on Skinnersville student housing project.
  • Repair/replacement of exterior stairways in Kimball Hall will begin in Spring 2002.
  • Farber Hall infrastructure project is in design.
  • Feasibility study to create apartment style housing in Goodyear Hall is under way.
