University Facilities outlines campus construction

University Facilities has announced new, ongoing and completed construction projects on the North and South campuses. These are projects that are of major interest, represent a major expenditure of university resources, or will have a major impact on the university community in terms of physical disruption.

Steel Completed Projects:

- Repaved north end of Webster Road

- Repaved Putnam Way from Hadley Road exit to Coventry Loop

- Constructed Lake LaSalle Lot, new lot for student parking located north of Alumni Arena

- Paved Stadium Lot southwest of UB Stadium; lot now is available for student parking

- Repaved Jacobs Lots A, B and C

- Added walkway extending from South Lake Village student housing complex to The Commons

- Completed roof repairs to Baker, Bissell, Slee, Beck, Clark and Wende halls

- Demolished Main Street Library (mathematics library) and converted area to green space

- Opened new Mathematics Building on the west end of academic spine

- Opened South Lake Village along south edge of Lake LaSalle

jackhammer - Repaired stone stairs at Cary, Crosby, Farber, Michael and Sherman halls

- Painted exteriors and cleaned and repointed masonry at Crosby and Wende halls

- Completed Americans With Disabilities Act and fire-service updates to 41 elevators in 21 buildings on North Campus

- Hung 11 new nest boxes for Eastern bluebirds within Natural Regeneration Areas

- Completed Phase II masonry repairs at Ellicott Complex

- Constructed one new classroom in Diefendorf Hall and six new classrooms in Talbert Hall for use this semester

On-going Projects

- Exterior Signage Project has begun with installation of full-sized prototype signs. The project is scheduled for completion by January 2001 with approximately 1,000 signs removed and installed on both campuses. The project is funded at $2.1 million.

- The Landscape Master Plan concept report is completed. Proceeding to identify areas to be included in future projects.

- The Harriman rehab project is under way, including renovation of ground and first floors, addition of an elevator, replacement of all windows and abatement of asbestos as required.

- Roof repairs for Baldy and Furnas halls and Statler Commissary are under way

- Moot Court/O'Brian Hall Rehab Project has begun. A new Moot Court is being constructed, along with four classrooms, a judges chamber and jury-deliberation room.

- Gateway Village, Phase IV of the student housing plan, is in site preparation. Located along the south side of Augspurger Road at the intersection of Flint Road, it will consist of nine double-apartment buildings with 536 beds and a commons building. Occupancy is scheduled for August 2001. The project will cost $19.5 million.

- Classrooms will become available to be centrally scheduled for the Spring 2001 Semester. They will be located in O'Brian, Baldy, Diefendorf and Crosby halls.

- Several renovation projects are under way for the medical school in Cary-Farber-Sherman

- Renovations for the School of Architecture and Planning and the IDEA Center are under way in Crosby and Hayes halls

Carpenter - Expansion for the Center for Computational Research has begun in Norton Hall. A future expansion is in design phase.

- Rehab for the Department of Biochemistry on the first floor of Farber Hall is under way, with completion expected by January 2001.

- Five more elevators in Crofts, Knox and the Student Union will undergo ADA and fire-service updates by October.

- Stone stairways are being repaired at Hayes and Parker halls.

New Projects:

- Phase III of Ellicott masonry repairs is scheduled for Summer 2001

- Student Services Building is in design phase.

- An addition to Ketter Hall is being planned.

- Renovation of third and fourth floors of Farber Hall is in design to create space for BioMembranes Initiative and bench research.

- Complete renovation of MacKay Heating Plant on South Campus is in design.

- Replacement of air-handling units in Cooke and Hochstetter hall is in design. Construction will begin in Fall 2001.
