Administrative update on construction
University Facilities has announced new, ongoing and completed construction projects on the North and South campuses. These are projects that are of major interest, represent a major expenditure of university resources or will have a major impact on the university community in terms of physical disruption.
Repaired stone stairs at Hayes, Parker and Farber halls
Upgraded five elevators in Crofts, Knox and the Student Union in line with Americans With Disabilities Act and fire-service requirements
Completed work on new, centrally scheduled classrooms in O'Brian Hall
Completed renovations for the School of Architecture and Planning and the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access (IDEA) in Crosby and Hayes halls
Completed rehab of the Department of Biochemistry on the first floor of Farber Hall
Ongoing Projects:
Exterior Signage Project has begun with the installation of full-sized, prototype signs. The project is scheduled to be completed by this coming fall with approximately 1,000 signs removed and installed on the North and South campuses.
Landscape Master Plan concept report has been completed. The committee is working to identify areas to be included in future projects.
Harriman rehab project is under way, with the renovation of the ground and first floors, addition of an elevator, replacement of all windows and asbestos abatement, as required.
Roof repairs for Baldy and Furnas halls and Statler Commissary are under way.
Moot Court/O'Brian Hall rehab project is under way. A new courtroom is being constructed, along with four classrooms, a judges chamber and jury-deliberation room.
Flint Village-Student Housing Phase IV Project-is under construction with occupancy scheduled for August. It will consist of nine double-apartment buildings and a common building. The project, located along the south side of Augspurger Road at the Flint intersection, will house 536 beds in one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments.
Expansion of the Center for Computational Research has begun in Norton Hall. A future expansion is in the design stage.
Rehabs of third and fourth floors of Farber Hall are in design.
Rehab of the Farber 220/221 suite for the Office of Medical Computing is in design.
Rehab of Farber 144 lecture hall is under way.
Two exit stairways in the northwest and southeast wings of Farber Hall are under construction.
Biotechnology Initiative in Farber 301 is in design. The project will create a 3,000-square-foot clean room for use by biotechnology researchers.
Painting of the first-floor public areas in Cary, Farber and Sherman halls is under way.
The second phase of work for the New York State Center for Engineering Design and Industrial Innovation (NYSCEDII) in Norton 15, 16 and 17 is under way.
Rehab of Crosby 301 lecture hall is under construction.
Feasibility study on converting Goodyear Hall into apartment-style housing is under way.
New Projects:
Phase III of the Ellicott masonry repairs is scheduled for this summer.
An addition to Ketter Hall is in design.
Replacement of air-handling units in Cooke and Hochstetter halls is in design. Construction will begin in the fall.
Addition to Jacobs Management Center is in estimate review.
Farber Hall Infrastructure Project is in design. The project will convert the building's steam heating to hydronic heating, as well as make improvements to the air-conditioning units.
Other Facilities Projects
Facilities staff will continue to paint public space this summer in Harriman, Foster and Fronczak halls and in the Student Union.
Re-grouting of the swimming pool in Clark Hall will be completed this summer.
Competition pool in Alumni Arena will be closed the week of May 20 for maintenance of the water-distribution system.
Flag poles in Flint Loop outside of Capen will be replaced this spring.
