UB Builds Community Through
SEFA Campaign We at UB have always played an active part in building the communities around us. This spirit of outreach and active citizenship has made UB the national leader for United Way giving through the annual State Employees Federated Appeal campaign. At UB, our daily work life demands that we attend to collective endeavors. Performing our jobs effectively within the university means networking with colleagues in other fields and sharing our expertise with them. We create a vital learning environment and sustain our competitive edge by exchanging knowledge across disciplinary boundaries. Yet our capacity for outreach has always extended well beyond UB. The same spirit of sharing that makes us a successful academic community commits us to improving the city and the region that surround the university. Each year, we demonstrate our care for communities outside UB by forming partnerships with health and human service agencies in the area. These agencies depend on both volunteer and financial contributions from UB partners. And with our support, they provide crucial help to friends, neighbors, and family members who lack access to the area's best resources. If you have helped to build community in the past through contributions to SEFA agencies, you can be assured that your public commitment is widely appreciated; we hope that SEFA, and its partnership with UB, can once again count on your generosity. If you haven't yet joined this proud UB tradition, we urge you to look through the SEFA brochure and to select one or several agencies that have special meaning for you. Some of these agencies may have already helped people in your life. Others have probably been active in redressing social problems that are close to your heart. These special agencies may even inspire you to volunteer time, in addition to making a financial contribution. We are enormously grateful to all those who help to make the SEFA campaign so successful each year. UB exists among neighbors that it cares for, and SEFA is a crucial part of this identity. Thank you, UB, for the pride that you take in strengthening our surrounding communities. -William R. Greiner Front Page | Top Stories | Q&A |
