Symposium to discuss regionalism's potential, problems

The potential and the problems associated with regionalism will be the focus of a symposium to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 6 in 104 O'Brian Hall on the North Campus.

"Regionalism: Promise and Problems" is sponsored by the Law School and the Buffalo Law Review. Topics to be discussed will be "The Structure of the Regional Community," "Regional Government: Theory and Practice" and "Regionalism and Race."

The symposium will bring together a diverse group of experts on local government to help government reformers understand the special problems of local government and the social structures that underlie the political system.

Participating in the program will be Gerald Frug, Harvard Law School; Alex Anas, UB Department of Economics; Georgette Poindexter, University of Pennsylvania Law School; M. David Gelfand, Tulane University Law School; Richard Thompson Ford, Stanford University Law School; Richard Briffault, Columbia University Law School; Patricia Petersen, University of Toronto; Scott Bollens, University of California at Irvine, and Thomas Sugrue, University of Pennsylvania.

The program, free for students, is open to the public for a $25 registration fee. The registration deadline is Feb. 27.
