Center for the Arts to present programs of entertainment and dance in April

Scholastic's The Magic School Bus Live will be presented for three performances: Friday, April 11, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the Mainstage of the Center for the Arts.

The Magic School Bus Live is adapted from the top-rated PBS TV series and the award-winning Scholastic book series that chronicles the exploits of science teacher extraordinary Ms. Frizzle and her class of enthusiastic students as their magic yellow school bus takes them on cliff-hanging "field trips" into the human body, to the center of the earth and into outer space.

Tickets are: adults, $18, $16, $12; children, $12.40, $10.50 and $6.50, available at the Center for the Arts Box office and all Ticketmaster locations.

On April 17, The International Artistic and Cultural Exchange Program of the UB Center for the Arts will present The Living Ancestor, a performance by the Cambodian American Heritage Dancers of Washington, D.C.

The program, at 7:30 p.m. on Mainstage, celebrates the rebirth of a new Cambodia that is proud of its cultural heritage and dedicated to rising above the tragedy of its recent history. The Cambodian Heritage Company aims to preserve traditional Cambodian court dances whose origin lies in ancient rituals. Tickets for The Living Ancestor are: general admission, $5; students, $3, available at the Center for the Arts Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations.

The evening will also include a Cambodian photography exhibition by Hei Han Khjang, a UB alumnus, in the Center for the Arts Atrium. Attending the event will be the Cambodian Ambassador, the Hon. Sisowath Sirirath, and John McAuliff, executive director of the U.S. Indo-China Reconciliation Project.

The mission of the International Artistic and Cultural Exchange Program is to promote cultural and artistic contributions of diverse national heritages. Other IACE programs will include a Spanish poetry recital April 18, at 8 p.m. in the Screening Room and Mexico/USA percussion recital May 4, at 8 p.m. in the Drama Theatre.
