Conferences and Special Events reassigned

UB's Office of Conferences and Special Events has been reassigned from the Office of University Advancement and Development to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, effective March 17. Conferences and Special Events, headed by William J. Regan, now reports to Clifford B. Wilson, associate vice president for auxiliary services.

In a joint memorandum announcing the reassignment, Robert L. Palmer, vice president for student affairs, and Ronald H. Stein, vice president for university advancement and development, said there are several advantages to the move.

"The primary advantage is that the institution would be more effectively served under the proposed structure than under the current organizational plan. The vast majority of events organized and scheduled by Conferences and Special Events require interaction and services provided by units functioning under the umbrella of student affairs. These units include the offices of Catering, Dining Services, Parking and Transportation, Public Safety, and frequently, the Residence Halls. Improved coordination of services would greatly enhance the overall quality of the services provided and eliminate some current duplication of services." Under the reorganization, Jay Friedman remains responsible for Campus Catering Services, but will report to Regan.
