University Libraries open special Sesqui exhibitions

· Lockwood Memorial Library, North Campus
"Treasures from the Lockwood Library" showcases fine press books created to be cultural, artistic objects, as well as a means of communication. These are not rare materials of great monetary value, said Lockwood Library Director Judith Adams, but examples of printing that conveys both knowledge and beauty. The exhibit is curated by Tim Conroy.

· Music Library, Baird Hall, North Campus
"Treasures in the Music Library" includes such items as concert programs from UB music history and from principal venues in the Western World; posters like that announcing an 1817 concert of Haydn's Creation, and Georgia O'Keefe's posters for the Santa Fe chamber music series; materials documenting the history of American music librarianship; recordings and lectures by UB's Slee Visiting Professors including Aaron Copland, Leon Kirchner and Ned Rorem; excerpts from the Jan Williams Archive and a collection of 19th-century full scores.

· Science & Engineering Library, Capen Hall, North Campus
"Scientific Literature of 1846" features interesting journals and articles from the library's rich collection dating from the year of UB's founding. It will include examples of scholarly articles, treatises and popular publications. A featured title will be the beautifully illustrated set, "Agriculture of New York State" by Ebenezer Emmons, published between 1846 and 1854.

· Law Library, O'Brian Hall, North Campus
"Historical Images" features photos and other images tracing the evolution of the law school, its professors, students and assorted buildings from late 1880s to its present incarnation in O'Brian Hall.

· Health Sciences Library, Abbott Hall, South Campus
"History of the Health Sciences Library," "The Bonnie and Vern Bullough History of Nursing Collection" and "The McGuire Historical Medical Instrument Collection."

· Poetry/Rare Books Collection, 420 Capen Hall, North Campus
"HERE: Fifty Years of Poetry in Buffalo" features important editions, manuscripts and photos of major poets writing in English who have visited, taught or read at UB, contributing to its reputation as a principal hot spot of postmodernism.

· University Archives. 420 Capen Hall, North Campus
"University at Buffalo Sesquicentennial Exhibit: The Founding of the University" produced and put on line by Christopher Densmore, acting director of the Archives. "Remembering the Past, Promoting the Future: 150 Years of Libraries at UB," an on-line exhibition designed and constructed by central technical services librarian Ellen Greenblatt, with assistance from John Edens and Christopher Densmore. · Oscar Silverman Undergraduate Library, Capen Hall, North Campus
"UB Libraries: Past, Present and Future," a look at the UB libraries through photos, objects and memorabilia that demonstrate historical changes in information-search technology.
