November 3, 1994: Vol26n9: Emmy-winning screen writer Alan Zxeibel to visit UB Alan Zweibel, the Emmy-award-winning screen writer, producer and comedy writer, will be on the UB campus Friday and Saturday conducting student workshops and taking part in Center for the Arts Grand Opening events. Zweibel, a 1972 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UB, recently co-produced the comedy "North" with Rob Reiner and is the author of Bunny, Bunny, a memoir of his longtime relationship with the late comedian Gilda Radner. Royalties from the book are being donated to Gilda's Club, a free support center for cancer patients and their families. Zweibel was producer, writer and co-creator of the "It's the Gary Shandling Show" and before that, spent five years as senior writer for the original "Saturday Night Live," where he created the character Roseanne Rosannadanna with Gilda Radner, co-developed "Not Necessarily the News," and contributed to the late John Belushi's samurai act. He began his professional career selling jokes to the "Tonight Show" and "Dick Cavett" while still a student at UB. He later wrote for many comedians including Steve Martin, Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd. He was a recent guest on the "David Letterman Show." Zweibel's workshops on "The Making of a Career in Hollywood" will be held Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at 246 Center for the Arts. His Friday schedule includes a taping of a brief interview for UB/TV at 2:30 p.m.; a tour of the Center for the Arts and a campus tour with Dean of Arts and Letters Kerry Grant and Center for the Arts Director Robert Chumbley from 3:30-4:30 p.m.; attendance at a Grand Opening Reception with President and Mrs. William R. Greiner at 6 p.m. in the Center for the Arts as well as a 7 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony. Zweibel will attend the 8 p.m. performance of "The Threepenny Opera," presented by the UB Department of Theatre and Dance and the UB Department of Music in the Drama Theatre. On Saturday, following the workshop, Zweibel will be a guest in the President's Suite in UB Stadium, at the football game pitting the UB Bulls against Youngstown State.
