SEEKING STUDY PARTICIPANTS UB is seeking adults between 18-65 with alcoholic cirrhosis to participate in a study examining the cholesterol-lowering effects of an investigational medicine. Participants spend three nights and two days and make 16 visits to the Clinical Research Center at Millard Fillmore Hospital-Gates Circle. They receive a free physical, electrocardiogram, liver function, blood, and urine tests, and $700 for time and travel. UB is also seeking adults with gum disease or a history of oral canker sores to participate in two studies. The nine-month gum disease study requires adults between 30-80 with sore, tender, inflamed gums untreated in the past year; the two-month canker sore study requres adults between 18-65 with a history of oral canker sores in otherwise good health. Gum disease study participants receive $200 for time and travel to visit the South Campus six times for teeth cleaning and topical gum medication. Canker sore study participants are required to keep a diary of their disorder and receive $50 for time and travel to make three visits to either the UB dental school or Erie County Medical Center.
