October 13, 1994: Vol26n6: Football Bulls are on a winning streak With a 23-10 win over Colgate before 6,761 homecoming fans on Saturday afternoon, UB earned its second straight win and first against an established Division I-AA opponent. UB took the lead for good in the first quarter and never looked back as Chris Behan hauled in a 10-yard pass from Cliff Scott. The score was set up when Bulls' linebacker Terry Morgan recovered a mishandled punt return. Colgate got on the board with a 21-yard Steve Franco field goal with four seconds left in the first quarter to make the score 7-3. With 9:45 left in the first half, the Bulls increased their lead to 13-3 on Tyler McDonnell's 11-yard run. The score was costly, however, as the freshman suffered a broken leg on the play and is expected miss the rest of the season. Late in the second quarter, the Bulls were driving when Derek Wicks' reception was fumbled and picked up by Colgate's Tom Morelli who raced 58 yards to the three-yard line. Two plays later, D.J. Hough scored from two yards, cutting UB's lead to 13-10. That was as close as the Red Raiders would get as UB's defense dominated the second half. Brad Bess scored his second touchdown of the season on a one-yard run on the Bulls' first possession of the third quarter. UB closed the scoring with 1:22 left in the game on a Mark Mozrall 22-yard field goal. The Bulls defense stifled Colgate's passing game, allowing just 40 yards as Red Raider quarterbacks were six of 28 passing with one interception. Colgate's Dana Farland gained 169 yards on the ground with 30 carries, with the rest of the Colgate rushing attack accounting for 10 carries and a total of minus five yards. The Bulls rushed for a season-high 215 yards and were led by Cliff Scott and Anthony Swan, who gained 65 and 63 yards, respectively. McDonnell accounted for 47 yards before leaving the game. Scott was 10-of-20 passing for 98 yards and one touchdown while brother Anthony Scott had three receptions for 45 yards. Defensively, Pete Conley led the Bulls with 12 tackles, one quarterback pressure and a forced fumble. Craig Guest pitched in with 11 stops.
