September 29, 1994: Vol26n4: Honors UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES WINS FULBRIGHT AWARD: Robert J. Bertholf, curator of the UB Poetry/Rare Books Collection, has been awarded a senior lectureship by the Fulbright Commission to teach American Studies at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey during the fall '94 semester. A member of the UB Program in Poetics, Bertholf will teach courses in 20th-century American poetry, a field closely related to his 15-year tenure as curator of the UB collection, which houses one of the most complete collections of 20th-century poetry in English in the world. Bertholf, author of numerous books, has published widely in scholarly journals, and served for eight years as editor of the prestigious literary journal Credences. He also edited Northwest Review, and is former American editor of the Australian journal New Poetry. CAREER PLANNING & PLACEMENT SUNY AWARD WINNER: The UB Career Planning and Placement Office has received an Award for Excellence in Programming from the SUNY Career Development Organization Inc. The award recognized the office's Automated Placement Service, created to increase accessibility of placement services to students and alumni, and to improve office management of employer information. MEDICINE ON EDITORIAL BOARD: Bruce A. Holm, associate dean for research and graduate studies in the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, has been appointed to a two-year term on the editorial board of American Journal of Physiology: Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, a journal of the American Physiological Society. An associate professor of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and pharmacology at UB, Holm also has been admitted to the Perinatal Research Society. A UB faculty member since 1989, Holm has published more than 60 articles in professional journals on pulmonary diseases and lung-surfactant therapy. He is principal investigator on a five-year, $820,000 NIH grant and a $365,000 NIH Research Career Development Award to study pulmonary oxygen toxicity. A graduate of the University of Iowa, he received master's and doctoral degrees in toxicology from the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
