September 29, 1994: Vol26n4: Israel Kibbutz Choir performs at UB Oct. 2 Israel Kibbutz Choir performs at UB Oct. 2 The 45-member Israel Kibbutz Choir will be on stage at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, in Slee Hall. The choir's appearance is sponsored by Hillel-Buffalo and UB's Jewish Student Organization and Israel Student Organization. The choir has performed in seven "Europa Cantat" festivals and in most European countries. With five recordings to their credit, choir members have performed under the baton of well-known conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Georg Solti and Daniel Barenboim. The group has been directed for 30 years by Avner Itai, chair of choral conducting at Tel-Aviv University's Academy of Music. Itai has conducted the Israel Philharmonic, the Haifa Symphony and the Israel Chamber Orchestra. The recipient of several awards for his contributions in the field of Jewish music, he is also musical director of the Israeli National Choir. The Israel Kibbutz Choir was organized in 1955 to provide an opportunity for kibbutz members to express their vocal talents in a non-professional framework. Admission to the concert is free to Hillel members, $5 for students, and $10 for general admission. The cost for those who would like to be listed on the program as patrons is $18.
