Reporter Volume 26, No.3 September 22, 1994 Football Lehigh University scored the game's first 21 points and cruised to a 48-19 victory, spoiling UB's 1994 home opener Saturday night. Engineers' quarterback Bob Aylsworth threw for four first half touchdowns to open up a 35-13 lead at the intermission. A Tyler McDonnell three-yard run and a 44-yard pass from Cliff Scott to Willie Ford produced UB's lone points of the half. Another Aylsworth to Klingerman TD strike opened the third quarter and an 11-yard run by Raphael Stillings gave Lehigh a 48-13 advantage. The Bulls closed the scoring with 7:24 remaining on a 23-yard run by Scott. He completed 18 of 36 passes for 272 yards with a touchdown while Aylsworth was three for 332 yards and five TDs. Willie Ford led the UB receiving corps with six receptions for 115 yards. Craig Guest and Pete Conley combined for 15 tackles and two sacks. Women's Soccer Shannon Haskins' goal 12 minutes into the second half broke a tie game and propeled the Royals to a 3-1 victory over St. Francis Saturday afternoon to give the Royals their third straight win and a 3-1 overall mark. Haskins got the game-winner at 57:05 off a pass from Kelly Starchok to beat St. Francis goalkeeper Kate McGonigle. The Royals added another goal 10 minutes later on Jennifer Devita's header off of a UB corner kick. The Royals outshot the Red Flash 16-5. Rachelle Galipeau played the first half making one save while Nicole Pittaro stopped two shots in the second half. Earlier in the week, the Royals shut out Niagara 5-0. Sophomore Lori Perillo scored four goals in the rout of the Purple Eagles. Tower also netted a goal for the Royals. Men's Soccer The Bulls pulled off an upset last Wednesday when they downed Big East power Syracuse 2-0 in Buffalo. Freshman Dan Ciolek was instrumental in both Bulls goals, scoring the first one 16:31 into the match and assisting on the second, a tally by Ediru Okpewho. Jay Palmer stopped seven Orangemen shots in his first shutout of the season. Coach John Astudillo's squad headed to Annapolis over the weekend to play in the Navy Tournament. The Bulls fell to the Midshipmen 5-1 in the opener Saturday with Charles Kadiri netting the lone UB score. On Sunday, the Bulls returned to knock off the VMI Keydets 4-1. The Bulls are now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-Continent Conference. Volleyball Coach Bob Maxwell's Royals traveled to the Robert Morris Volleyfest in Coroapolis, Pa. over the weekend. UB picked up their first wins of the season with a four-game victory over the host Colonials and a five-game win over Marshall. Candie Hirst was selected to the All-Tournament team. The Royals now stand at 2-8. Women's Tennis The Royals are1-1 after a season-opening victory over St. Francis 8-1, and a loss at Pittsburgh. Tonya Gabriel won both her matches over the weekend taking each in three sets. Gabriel and partner Amy Cohen defeated both their opponents in doubles competition. - Sports Information Office
