Reporter Volume 26, No.23 April 6, 1995 By JED NITZBERG Reporter Contributor The Columbus McKinnon Corp. and the Dunlop Tire Corp. have established a fellowship for graduate students in the UB School of Management in memory of A. Neville Procter, former president and chief executive officer of Dunlop Tire Corp. and a former director of Columbus McKinnon. The corporations have made a combined pledge of $100,000 toward the endowment in honor of Procter, who died in 1994. The Procter fellowship endowment will provide partial tuition support for full-time graduate students enrolled in the UB School of Management who demonstrate financial need and have an interest in studying manufacturing. The fellowship will be awarded to one student every other year and will follow each recipient for a two-year period of study. Procter began his career with Dunlop Tire in England in 1950 and quickly established himself as an innovator in manufacturing and operations. He was called on to share his expertise at Dunlop's divisions in Brazil, Spain, Nigeria and Canada before coming to Buffalo. He was named executive vice president of Dunlop Tire and Rubber Corp. in Buffalo in 1970 and became president and chief executive officer in 1972. He served as a director of Columbus McKinnon from 1987 until his death. Procter received recognition from numerous WNY business groups including the Buffalo-Niagara Sales & Marketing Executive Award in 1975, the Niagara Frontier Executive of the Year Award in 1977 and the Community Leader of the Year award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1985. Frederick W. Winter, dean of the School of Management, said the Procter graduate fellowship will provide the school with another opportunity to attract the best and the brightest students with financial need and help them continue their studies in management.
