Reporter Volume 26, No.22 March 30, 1995 The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) will sponsor the 1995 Region Six conference, "Beginning of a New Spirit," March 31-April 2. Co-hosted by AISES chapters at UB and Buffalo State College, the conference is expected to draw 100 students from more than 17 schools in the Northeast and upper Midwest, as well as professionals from across the country. Saturday's programs will be held in the Center for Tomorrow. Events planned include a tree-planting ceremony and Council of Elders, student and professional caucuses, career and graduate school fair and social activities. Sessions will be held on Chapter Development; Interviewing and Resume Skills; Graduate School and Beyond; Making Community Connections; Maintaining Your Native American Culture in the Corporate World; Starting an Indian-Owned Business; and Environmental Issues in Native America. A private, nonprofit organization, AISES seeks to significantly increase the number of American Indian scientists and engineers in the U.S. At the collegiate level, AISES provides scholarships, mentoring support and leadership training to prepare students for successful science and engineering careers.
