Reporter Volume 26, No.21 March 23, 1995 Track & Field While UB took time off for spring break, the Bulls and Royals track and field teams started their outdoor season in North Carolina. The teams opened their season at the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C., where Chris Bossert won the 5,000 meters in 15:06, setting a UB record. Bossert also finished fifth in the 1500 in 4:00.4. The 400 relay team of Thom Kaye, Eric Fischlein, Kieran Doherty and Kevin Winkler qualified for the IC4A meet with their fifth place time of 43.54. On the women's side, Claudine Waite set a school record in the triple jump at 36 feet 2-1/4 inches placing third in the event. Waite also teamed with Lisa Kragbe, Shirley Moody and Naquetta Davis to finish second in the 400 relay in 49.3. Maureen Hamilton's 5,000 time of 18:59 and Julie Phelps' 10:19.2 in the 3,000 were also second place finishes for the Royals. The Bulls and Royals also competed at the Wake Forest Invitational to conclude their southern swing. Kragbe set a pair of school records for the Royals winning the 100 high hurdles in 14.96 and finishing fourth in the 400 high hurdles in 1:04.66. Tara Reimer's third place finish in the 5,000 (18:26) and Stacey Strothmann's 3,000 time of 9:57 for fourth also highlighted the Royals. Kris Winkler's third place finish of 48.56 in the 400 meters was tops for the Bulls. Men's Tennis Coach Russ Crispell's squad rounded out their spring trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with 5-2 loss to Mid-Continent rival Troy State on Saturday. Warren Polakoff's victory at number three singles led the Bulls. Polakoff also teamed with Tim Buch to take a doubles victory while Rami Zuwiyya picking up the Bulls' other singles win.
