Reporter Volume 26, No.20 March 9, 1995 Men's Basketball The men's basketball team closed its season Sunday night, losing to Western Illinois 76-70 in the semifinal round of the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament. The Bulls finished the year 18-10, the most wins by a UB men's team since the 1964-65 season. Woody Williams led the Bulls against Western with 23 points while Myron Banks added 21 points and Rasaun Young had 18. The Bulls played without starting center Kelvin Robinson, out with a broken foot. UB advanced to the semifinal game with an electrifying 70-65 victory Friday night over Eastern Illinois at the Big A. Down by five with a bit more than four minutes left, the Bulls rallied to post the victory. Young led UB with 21 points. UB now waits for word this weekend whether or not it has earned a berth in the National Invitational Tournament. Women's Basketball The Royals posted their second straight 20-win season by beating Missouri-Kansas City 77-62 in the first round of the conference tournament last Saturday. UB was 20-7 heading into its semifinal game at Youngstown State Monday night. Natosha Cummings led the Royals with 23 points. The winner of that tournament earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Women's Swimming and Diving The UB women's swimming and diving team took second place in the 39-team ECAC Championships last weekend in the Big A Natatorium. The Royals' 800 free relay team took first with a school record time. Members included Suzanne Bohnel, Martie Duffet, Alexandra Barrera and Kristen Krenitsky. Barrera also set a school record in the 200 backstroke. Duffet set a school mark in the 200 butterfly while Krenitsky established a school record in the 500 free. Lenina Trinidad set a school mark in the 50 back. Men's Swimming and Diving The Bulls swimming and diving team finished fourth with 344 points. James Madison took first with 557 points. Mark Horgan set three school records. Also breaking a school record was Kevin Remaly in the 100 breaststroke. Justin Monin, coming off his Diver of the Year honors in the Mid-Continent Conference Championships, won the 1-meter diving at the ECACs.
