February 23, 1995: Vol26n28: SPORTSVIEW Sophomore guard Rasaun Young scored a career-high 31 points Saturday night to lead the Bulls past the Youngstown State Penguins 75-72 at Alumni Arena before 5,161 chanting, foot-stomping fans, the largest crowd in the modern Division I era at UB. The win kept the Bulls, now 15-8 overall and 10-3 in the Mid-Continent Conference, firmly in second place behind Valparaiso. UB hosts the Crusaders on March 1 in the regular season finale. The Bulls took the lead for good with 3:06 left when Modie Cox made a steal and converted a layup at the other end to give UB a 68-66 advantage. Young and Cox would account for the Bulls' final 13 points. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL The Royals dropped out of a first place tie Saturday night falling to Youngstown State 85-64 in front the largest crowd to see a women's basketball game at Alumni Arena this season, 1,023. The loss snapped the Royals longest winning streak of the season at six. Youngstown State shot 57.1 percent from the field in the game to retain a first place tie with Western Illinois in the Mid-Continent Conference standings. The Royals (16-6 overall, 11-3 in the Mid-Con.) travel to Western Illinois on Feb. 23. Natosha Cummings led the Royals with 14 points against the Lady Penguins while Anne Gallagher and Kris Holtz added 11 points apiece. INDOOR TRACK & FIELD Lisa Kragbe set a school-record in the 55-meter hurdles and helped the Royals to another school mark in the 1,600 relay during the Robert B. Cane Invitational at Cornell. Kragbe teamed with Terry Scherne, Jaime Hirschman and Shirley Moody to qualify the foursome for the ECAC's with a time of 3:55.9. She also placed second in the hurdles in 8.46 seconds to establish the UB mark. Judith Novak took the 3,000 meter run in 10:20.3 while the distance medley relay team of Colleen Hart, Sue Mackovich, Aimee Mann and Stacey Strothmann took first place in 12:30.6. On the men's side, Kris Winkler, Kevin Winkler, Geoff Warlock and Eric Fischlein won the 1,600 relay with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:20.7 at the same meet.
