February 16, 1995: Vol26n17: HONORS PHARMACEUTICS TO RECEIVE APA AWARD: Jerome J. Schentag, professor of pharmaceutics at UB, will receive the Stimulation of Research Award from the American Pharmaceutical Association at the association's annual meeting next month. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in stimulating others to engage and excel in pharmaceutical research. Schentag, a member of the UB faculty since 1976, is the director of the UB Center for Clinical Pharmacy Research and the doctoral program in pharmacy. He also directs the Clinical Pharmacokinetics Laboratory at Millard Fillmore Hospital-Gates Circle. He co-invented the "Smart Pill," a drug-delivery system designed to carry a medical payload to a specific site in the gastrointestinal tract. MEDICINE VICE PRESIDENT OF PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY: James P. Burdick, clinical instructor in anesthesiology at UB, was installed last month as vice president of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA) at the 48th Postgraduate Assembly in Anes- thesiology. Involved in the NYSSA for almost 20 years, he is a former district director and serves as chair of the anesthesia care team committee. Burdick, a graduate of the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, is director of anesthesia services at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. A diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, he serves on the board of the Office of Professional Medical Conduct, New York State Department of Health. CHAIR OF NATIONAL CONFERENCE: John Feather, executive director of the Primary Care Resource Center in the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, will chair the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel's Fourth National Conference this month in Washington, D.C. The panel's biannual conferences have developed much of the primary literature on pressure-ulcer incidence, prevalence and cost, and have been the basis for significant research. One of its founding members, Feather has completed a seven-year term on the national panel, a non-profit organization headquartered at UB. He joined the UB faculty as a professor of sociology in 1978. He previously served as coordinator of geriatric research in the Division of Geriatrics/Gerontology in the UB medical school.
