February 9, 1995: Vol26n16: Public Safety commends employees who 'got involved' Two University Services employees exhibited a willingness to "get involved" that has brought them a commendation from the UB Department of Public Safety. Jim Witczak and Tom Doyle, members of the University Facilities staff, have been commended by Public Safety's Acting Director John Grela for their efforts in pulling a burning vehicle out of the way of other vehicles in Baird A Lot. The letter from Grela to Richard Bohn, maintenance supervisor for Building Services and Grounds, reads: "I would like to commend the actions of two of your employees, who on the morning of Jan. 24, without regard to their own safety, pulled a burning vehicle out of the way of several other parked vehicles, preventing the fire from spreading to these vehicles in Baird A Lot. "These two gentlemen were Tim Witczak and Tom Doyle. They affixed a tow strap to the burning vehicle and with their State vehicle pulled it into the aisle. Their actions prevented thousands of dollars in damages to other vehicles which surely would have become involved due to their proximity to the flames. Their courage and willingness to get involved is an example to all of us. Please extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Witczak and Mr. Doyle."
