January 26, 1995: Vol26n14: Hazardous Waste Center seeks remediation project proposals By ELLEN GOLDBAUM News Bureau Staff The New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management, headquartered at UB, is seeking full proposals for its 1995 research-and-development program and preliminary proposals for a new remediation-technology pilot-scale demonstration program. Since its establishment in 1987 by the New York State Legislature, the center has awarded 58 research contracts totaling more than $4 million in state funds. The center is also supported by funds from industry and participating universities. The center always has sought research-and-development proposals that move specific, promising methods or technologies toward application. But now, for the first time, the center also is seeking preliminary proposals for remediation-technology pilot-scale demonstrations at sites contaminated with hazardous wastes or substances. The goal is to ultimately reduce costs of remediation in New York State, hasten restoration and reuse of contaminated sites and contribute to the state economy through the commercialization of new and improved environmental-remediation technologies. Deadline for submission of preliminary proposals for remediation-technologyJpilot-scale demonstration projects is Feb. 17. Notification to submit full remediation-technology proposals will be made by March 17. The center seeks innovative research and engineering projects that offer the potential to reduce the quantity or toxicity of hazardous wastes generated in New York State. Deadline for submission of research proposals is 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24. Notification of research and development project awards will be made in July. For more information contact the center in 207 Jarvis Hall or call 645-3446.
