January 26, 1995: Vol26n14: Spring Fitness Fair set for Feb. 10 in Alumni Think fitness for 1995 -- and do something about it! Recreation and Intramural Services has a program to help you begin. The UB FIT Faculty/Staff Spring Fitness Fair is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Alumni Arena gymnastics room (Room 175) on the North Campus. The Fair includes a health screening process to assess individual cardiovascular health as well as to identify other potential risk factors. Fee for the health screening is $25, which includes a UB FIT T-shirt. The screening, which takes about an hour, covers cardiovascular risk analysis, cholesterol, percent body fat, resting blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index, height and weight, grip strength, submaximal aerobic capacity test and self-directed exercise program handouts, where appropriate, with counseling. The UB FIT program is designed to meet the fitness needs of individuals who are motivated toward the improvement of general health and well-being through exercise. The program's options feature physical fitness testing and fitness programming, in addition to health screening. It is available to all UB faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and the Buffalo community. Choices range from the highly structured to self-directed exercise programs. Individuals found to be at risk for cardiovascular disease will be directed into additional testing options such as physical fitness testing, functional capacity evaluation and medical evaluation. The program is jointly sponsored by the Division of Athletics, Department of Physical Therapy and Exercise Science, the Living Well Center and the UB Sports Medicine Institute. For more information on the Fitness Fair, call Recreation and Intramural Services at 645-2286 between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Appointments will be made at 15-minute intervals and registration and payment can be made at Recreation and Intramural Services.
