January 26, 1995: Vol26n14: SPORTSVIEW Men's Basketball The Bulls snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday night defeating the University of Missouri-Kansas City 77-68 at Alumni Arena. With the win, the Bulls equaled the total number of victories from the previous season at 10. Woody Williams scored a career-high 22 points in leading the Bulls to the victory. Guard Rasaun Young, who had seen limited action the previous couple of weeks due to an ankle injury, added 19 points while Myron Banks contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Center Kelvin Robinson accumulated 14 boards along with nine points, three blocks and three steals. Modie Cox had 10 assists for the second time in as many games. Women's Basketball The Royals pulled into a three-way tie for first place in the Mid-Continent Conference with their 66-61 win over Missouri-Kansas City at Alumni Arena Saturday night. The win gave the Royals a 5-1 mark in league play tying them with co-leaders Western Illinois and Youngstown State. Freshman Charissa Gardner led the team with 12 points while Natosha Cummings added 11. Nicole Blakeslee scored 10 points with six rebounds off the bench and Anne Gallagher earned a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Women's Swimming The Royals fell at home to Cornell 168-119 on Jan. 18. Alexandra Barrera won three events individually taking the 1000 Freestyle in 10:24.11, the 200 Backstroke in 2:10.01 and the 500 Freestyle in 5:10.51. She teamed with Sue Bohnel, Laura Herrick and Kristen Krenitsky to win the 200 Free Relay in 1:45.42. Karen Lasky was a double winner taking the one-meter diving competition with 258.15 points and the three-meter event with 261.00. Earlier in the week, UB fell to Maryland-Baltimore County 160-75. Barrera was the lone winner with a 10:31.12 in the 1000 Freestyle. Men's Swimming Coach Budd Termin's Bulls lost a close one at Maryland-Baltimore County 123-114 on Jan. 12 in their last action. Jamie Playfair, Kevin Remaly, Kevin Male and Darren Milun captured the 400 Medley Relay in 3:31.79. Individually, Playfair took the 50 Freestyle in 23.34 while Milun won the 100 Freestyle at 47.78. Justin Monin was a double winner in diving taking the one-meter event with 252.45 points and the three-meter competition at 235.88. Korry Miller won the 200 Backstroke in 1:54.29 while teaming with Male, Josh Pieczonka and Mark Horgan for victory in the 400 Free Relay in 3:15.01. Wrestling Three Bulls earned All-State honors in the New York State Collegiate Championships. Brian Dowdall finished sixth at 126 pounds, Rennie Crisafulli was fourth at 142 pounds and Anthony Conte at 158 pounds placed fifth. The Bulls host Kent State in a dual meet this Saturday. Indoor Track Fumu Gakodi set a school record of 50.2 in the 400 meters in a triangular meet at Hamilton, N.Y. against Vermont and host Colgate. The Bulls were second with 114 points to Vermont's 126. Colgate finished with 82. In the women's meet, the Royals also placed second with 109 points to Vermont's 134 while Colgate was third with 78.
