January 26, 1995: Vol26n14: Nursing class opens first long distance learning project Returning to college took on a totally new dimension Jan. 19, when 42 UB students began their first class in Nursing 505 -- "Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing." But only 28 were in 125 Kimball Hall on the South Campus, with instructor Mary Finnick. The remaining 14 were in a classroom at the Jamestown Community College branch campus in Olean, as the UB School of Nursing inaugurated the region's first long-distance, interactive-learning project. Students in both classrooms were able to see and hear each other and actively participate in discussion. Mecca Cranley, dean of the UB School of Nursing, began the class with a "virtual ribbon cutting" at 5:30 p.m. in Kimball and welcomed the students in Olean to the university. Judith Cordia, director of the School of Nursing at Jamestown Community College, and Carol Scott, dean of the Olean campus of JCC, responded from Olean.
