January 19, 1995: Vol26n13: OBITUARIES UB honors Praxair for social awareness For the second consecutive year, Praxair, Inc. has received the Rose Award for corporate social awareness from the UB chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, the international business fraternity. The award, conceived by the students of the Alpha Kappa Chapter, recognizes Praxair for its three educational outreach programs: the "Praxair Visiting Scientist Program," in which employees visit Holmes Elementary School in the Town of Tonawanda and conduct experiments to encourage science interest among the young; a Mentoring Program that matches up an at-risk student with a Praxair employee who meets with the student on an ongoing basis, and the popular Cryogenic Demonstration, a "Mr. Wizard"-type performance that shows the effects of ultra-cold temperatures, ranging to 320 degrees below zero, on various materials. Frederick Winter, dean of the UB School of Management, presented the award to Steve Glick, Praxair director of administration, and Bill Therrien, vice president of engineering and safety and environmental services.
