December 1, 1994: Vol26n12: Football coach is reassigned Football coach is reassigned Jim Ward, head football coach at UB since January, 1992 has been released from his head coaching position and reassigned to other duties within the Division of Athletics effective December 31, 1994. In announcing this major change in the Athletics Department, Nelson Townsend, Director of Athletics, stated, "Coach Ward played a vital role in the transitional stages of the university's football program. Many changes were implemented during his tenure that will help establish a solid base upon which the university will build a highly competitive program in the future." Ward had been head coach for three years, with the first year spent as interim coach. The team's three-year record under Ward was 8 wins, 24 losses. He will be reassigned as academic counselor in the Athletic Department for the remaining time of his contract (Dec. 31, 1995). A national search will begin immediately to hire Ward's replacement with plans to have the position filled before the peak recruiting and signing period.
