November 10, 1994: Vol26n10: The Chronicle in Cyberspace The Chronicle in Cyberspace For those of you who do not subscribe to The Chronicle of Higher Education you might be interested in their Internet publication Academe This Week (ATW). Though not the full text of The Chronicle, ATW, which is published every Tuesday at noon, presents summaries of its articles, deadlines for fellowships, grants, institutes and workshops, notification of upcoming academic meetings, and a listing of best-selling books in college bookstores. ATW also provides you with the opportunity to look up position openings worldwide both in and out of academe. You are given the choice to search the listings by category such as "faculty and research positions" or you can put in your own search word. For example, by entering the word "dean" in the Nov. 2 ATW one obtains 149 job listings. For those who want facts and statistics related to higher education at their fingertips ATW offers "Facts and Figures on U.S. Higher Education." Based on the "Almanac Issue" of The Chronicle, this section presents general U.S. demographics, numbers of colleges and universities by type, faculty salaries, student enrollment data, and educational funding statistics. The source of each statistic is given at the end of each category. The Annenberg/Corporation for Public Broadcasting Project, which has been supporting programs that use telecommunications to improve the quality and accessibility of higher education since 1981, contributes its own menu of information to ATW. Menu items include grant program updates, information on the American Cinema series (complete with the opportunity to enter a movie trivia contest), a listing of educational videodisks and cd-roms, and a description of the "New Pathways to a Degree Program."
