Reporter Volume 26, No.1 September 1,1994 Head Football Coach Jim Ward welcomes back 44 lettermen and 15 starters from last year's squad as the Bulls open the 1994 season this Saturday at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. The game marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools. James Madison, a member of the Yankee Conference, finished the 1993 season with a 6-5 record and returns 39 of its top 44 players making the Dukes a solid test for the Bulls in the season-opener. Entering its second season at the Division I-AA level, UB will rely on depth and experience to improve upon its 1-10 record from a season ago. Senior quarterback Cliff Scott returns for his final season to lead the Bulls' offense. Scott, considered one of the top I-AA players in the nation at his position, completed 166 of 320 passes for a career-best 2,263 yards and nine TDs last season. UB remains on the road next week at Towson State before returning to UB Stadium for the home opener vs. Lehigh on Sept. 17. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The game will open with a special jump by the Mighty Taco parachute team, and continue with a chance for fans to meet Buffalo's newest celebrity, the UB mascot. The first 1,000 fans will get special commemorative centennial posters, as well as UB schedule magnets. Plenty of excitement and numerous promotions will highlight all six UB home games in 1994. Events planned for each game include the food tent, where you can listen to the toe-tapping sounds of Dixieland jazz while enjoying Bully Burgers, hot dogs, or sausages with peppers and onions. While the music plays (the Outer Circle Orchestra kicks off the season on Sept. 17), jugglers and clowns will also stroll through the area, entertaining the young and the old. Fans can be winners of some great prizes just sitting in the stands watching the game. UB's world-famous six-foot slingshot returns to hurl T-shirts, submarine sandwiches and other surprises into the crowd. If you're not in a catching mood, answer trivia or Name That Tune, and play Let's Make A Deal during in-game promotions. For season ticket information, call the UB Athletic Ticket Office at 645-6666.
