September 1,1994: Vol26n1: George Hayes Marcy, 89, orthopedist, professor Memorial services were held Aug. 2 for George Hayes Marcy, 89, a longtime Buffalo orthopedist who served as assistant clinical professor of orthopedics at UB. Marcy died July 27 at his Abino Woods Farm in Point Abino, Ont. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, he joined his father, Dr. William H. Marcy, in private medical practice as an orthopedist. In World War II, he was an orthopedic surgeon with the 23rd General Hospital. He served in North Africa and Naples, Italy, where he performed pioneering work with penicillin. Marcy served also in France and England, where he was chief of orthopedics for the 160th General Hospital. Marcy was chief of staff at both Millard Fillmore Hospital and Buffalo General, where he was an attending surgeon. After his retirement, he took up a career in farming at his Abino Woods Farm. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Association, the Roswell Park Medical Club and the Medical Union. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; three daughters, Margaret A. of Gulfport, Fla., Elizabeth Spaulding of Tacoma, Wash. and Martha M. Richards of Buffalo; a son, Barton C. of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.
