Pogue, State University of New York vice chancellor for student affairs and special programs, was keynote speaker at an awards ceremony held by the Educational Opportunity Program of the University at Buffalo at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, in the Student Union on the North Campus. They participate in individual counseling, tutoring and special workshops, in addition to their coursework. Most are in the first generation of their families to attend a college or university, says Henry Durand, director of the Center for Academic Development Services/EOP at UB. Honored with special awards from EOP and the State of New York were 130 graduating seniors, 50 of whom have had a 3.0 or higher grade point average throughout their college career. Honored for having a 3.0 or higher grade point average were 210 students in their freshman through junior years. Eighty-four of the 260 have 3.5 or higher averages.
