Reporter Volume 25, No.27 May 5, 1994 Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly announced details of his annual StarGaze to be presented June 3-5 on the UB North Campus. This is the first year the event, previously at Pilot Field, will be held at UB. Presenting sponsor is French's, a division of Rickett & Colman. "The Kelly For Kids Foundation allows me to give something back to the community and to the less fortunate," said Kelly. "But this year's StarGaze will allow me to bring something bigger to the Buffalo Bills fans by incorporating the 'NFL Experience on Tour' over the StarGaze '94 weekend. The opportunity could not exist if it wasn't for the outstanding facilities provided by the University at Buffalo." Kelly said the goal of StarGaze '94 and associated events is to raise more than $150,000 for children's charities. "The University at Buffalo is proud to be the host of StarGaze '94 and delighted to be involved in such an important community effort to support the health and happiness of Western New York's children," said President William R. Greiner. "This is a great way for us to contribute to the Decade of the Child. StarGaze '94 will not only raise funds, but will build people's awareness of our children's needsQan important aspect of the community-wide Success by Six Program to which UB is committed. "We are also excited to be able to share our campus facilities," Greiner added, "especially our new stadium, with community members who may not have had the opportunity to visit the UB campus before." The "NFL Experience on Tour," a popular attraction at the last four Super Bowls (to include interactive games that are part carnival, part football theme park), will be held in Alumni Arena June 3 (10 a.m.-6 p.m.); June 4 (10 a.m.-10 p.m.) and June 5 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Limited tickets are available through Ticketmaster locations and the UB Athletic Ticket Office (645-6666). StarGaze comes to UB Stadium the afternoon of June 5, and will feature nationally recognized athletes and celebrities. Fans will have an opportunity to watch their favorite celebrities in the Home Run Derby Contest, All-Star Softball Game and the Million Dollar Shoot Out. New to this year's StarGaze line-up is "Media Sumo Wrestling. The victor here wins the chance to compete against some of the great NFL quarterbacks to win $1 million. The All-Star Softball Game will be coached by Bills Head Coach Marv Levy and Sabres Coach John Muckler. Celebrities scheduled to participate include rock star Eddie Van Halen, actress Valerie Bertinelli, Rob Ray of the Buffalo Sabres, Fred Smerlas, formerly of the Buffalo Bills, and actors Rob Lowe and Jason Bateman. That evening, Donald Trump, Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, New York Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Warren Moon, and Bills players Bruce Smith, Steve Tasker and Frank Reich, will attempt to throw a football from 30 yards through a hole two inches bigger than a regulation NFL football to win $1 million during the "Million Dollar Shoot Out." Celebrities will be throwing for the charity of their choice. StarGaze '94 tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the UB Athletic Ticket Office (645-6666) for $7.50 per person; children under three are free. Tickets to both the "NFL Experience on Tour" and StarGaze '94 can be purchased for a combination price of $14 per person. The primary beneficiary of StarGaze '94 will be Cradle Beach Camp, a summer camp for handicapped and disadvantaged children. In addition, The Kelly For Kids Foundation will distribute other funds raised through the Community Grants Program, which awards smaller grants to local organizations assisting children in need.
